Dmitri Levkovich, Piano

Dmitri Levkovich, Piano

Canadian-Ukranian pianist and composer Dmitri Levkovich was born into both vocations. He honed his piano technique and interpretative powers under the guidance of Sergei Babayan for 11 years and studied composition at the Curtis Institute of Music. He has been praised for "artistic sophistication far above the ordinary" (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) and "understanding of the music far beyond most young pianists” (American Record Guide).

Between 2005 and 2013 Dmitri earned top awards at more than a dozen international competitions, including the Cleveland, Jose Iturbi, Gina Bachauer, China Piano Competitions and the Vendôme Prize in Lisbon. Dmitri has earned ‘audience favorite’ awards and special recognition for his performances of Chopin’s works. After his 2013 International German Piano Award he appeared in both the Grand Hall and Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie, the Grand Hall of Frankfurt’s Alte Oper, Fazioli Concert Hall in Sacile, and in Shanghai, Qatar and Tbilisi. His debut recording of Rachmaninoff’s 24 Preludes was met with worldwide critical acclaim and earned a nomination for the 2016 International Classical Music Award.

Recent performance highlights include the Grieg Concerto with Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1 at the Great Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie, his Ravinia Festival debut, and the second International Mariinsky Far East Festival. In the fall of 2021, Dmitri toured Switzerland with Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto, performing at the Basel and Bern Stadtcasinos. The same season, his performances of Chopin’s Concerto No.1 with Sinfonia Toronto and Rachmaninoff’s Second Concerto with Baden-Baden Symphony Orchestra (Frankfurt’s Alte Oper) have been streamed worldwide.

Dmitri’s performing credits include solo engagements with the Cleveland Orchestra, Sinfonia Toronto, China National Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Slovak Philharmonic, and Utah Symphony. In recital he has performed at Carnegie Hall, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, the Great Halls of the Moscow Conservatory and the Gulbenkian Foundation, Beijing’s National Center for the Performing Arts, Warsaw Philharmonic Hall, and the Mariinsky Theater’s Concert Hall. He has participated in festivals including Deer Valley, New Contemporary Piano Faces at Mariinsky, Gergiev Festival in Rotterdam, Salzburg Whitsun, Ravinia and Ravello.

Mario Carbotta, Flute

flutist Mario Carbotta

An acclaimed soloist with Sinfonia Toronto in several previous seasons, flutist Mario Carbotta has performed with orchestras too numerous to count. A very short list would include the Mannheim Chamber Orchestra, Mainz Chamber Orchestra, Prague Virtuosi, Strings of La Scala, Vienna Tonkünstler-Orchester, SüdwestdeutschePhilharmoniePRC Radio-Televison Orchestra, Israeli Symphonietta, Orquestra do Algarve, Orquestra Classica de Madeira, Orchestra of the Provincia di Bari and the San Remo Philharmonic, and there are dozens more.

Mr. Carbotta is one of the world’s most-recorded flutists, with releases on Dynamic, Tactus, Nuova Era and Rugginenti. He has issued recordings of works by Sammartini and Pilati, the complete flute works of Mercadante, the complete flute works of Nino Rota, many CD’s of deserving works by little-known classical composers, and many CD’s of 20th- and 21st-century works, including music composed for and dedicated to him.

In demand as a teacher, he has given courses and master classes in the US, the International Academy of music in Milan and the International Summer Courses in NowySacz, Poland. He has edited the sonatas of Fioroni, Nardini, Lichtenthal and Rolla for the publishers Bèrben, Carisch and Rugginenti. He holds a permanent Professorship at the Boccherini Conservatory in Lucca.
