JOE TRIO is not your average piano trio, but that's the point. The trio doesn't wish to be neatly categorized. Instead they strive for diversity, versatility and more than a little humour and unpredictability. Their repertoire consists of the classics - from Haydn to Shostakovich - new works by contemporary composers, and their own arrangements of popular, jazz and rock tunes. The trio is not only virtuosi, they are fantastic performers that engage the audience in a way few classical musicians can. Amply witty, charming and tremendously musical, Joe Trio leaves audiences with a new appreciation for classical music.

Since Joe Trio was formed in 1989, this classically trained violin-cello-piano threesome has presented concerts throughout Canada from British Columbia to Newfoundland, and in the United States from Washington to Maine. They also appear regularly in their home city of Vancouver, BC, with the Little Chamber Music Series That Could. Joe Trio has been heard on National Public Radio in the United States, RTE Lyric FM in Ireland and on several CBC Radio shows including Morningside, Disc Drive, The Music Room, West Coast Performance and Quirks and Quarks.

In 1997 they recorded their first CD, A Cup of Joe, and in 1998-99, Joe Trio brought their unique program to audiences throughout eastern Canada and the southern United States. In 2001, they recorded their second album with CBC entitled ‘Set em up, Joe’, which was nominated in the Best Classical Performance category at the West Coast Music Awards. In 2003, they joined forces with Canadian broadcaster and writer Stuart McLean when Cameron Wilson, their violinist set the music to McLean's 'A History of Canada'. It was commissioned by the CBC to celebrate 75 years on air. Last year, Cameron Wilson was commissioned by RTE Lyric FM in Ireland to write a new piece called ‘Rooster Bop Boogie’. In October and November, Joe Trio was on tour in Ontario and Manitoba. In January 2006, they played a number of shows with Stuart McLean’s Vinyl Café on CBC Radio. A new CD is in the pipeline for 2006 so keep an eye out through their website.
