Chanson - American Male A Cappella

April 30, 2011 - Bonus Concert
The six-voice male a cappella vocal ensemble Chanson was formed in 1997 at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where the young musicians were members of Concordia's famed travelling choir directed by René Clausen. The ensemble has since toured widely, released three compact disc recordings including "Come Sing to Me of Heaven" and "There is Sweet Music", and performed at the René Clausen Choral School.

The ensemble is gaining a reputation for performing exciting choral music in a uniquely rich and expressive style. Audiences have responded to the ensemble's seamless blend, precise intonation, and warm, resonant sound. Chanson's engaging concerts feature a wide variety of musical styles, including creative folk song arrangements, Renaissance motets, passionate Russian anthems, and energetic spirituals. Many concerts feature a newly commissioned work.

"Simply splendid...The group's young men have been singing together for four years and have achieved a vocal blend and a stylish finesse that far surpass many groups that have been in the business longer....close harmonies, excellent diction and fine attention to style that characterized the entire performance. It was a moment to cherish." (The Courier-Journal, Louisville)
"Chanson's impeccable blend and sumptuous phrasing earns these dynamic young vocalists a place in the upper echelon of today's male ensembles."(Robert Sieving, president, American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota)
"One of the best groups I have ever heard. Their diction is superb with the uniform vowel sounds and the crisp consonants which are the trademark of any really good group. And, their dynamics are fantastic. The repertoire of Chanson covers every style and period of music. They sing all equally well." (Donald W. Crouch, Associated Male Choruses of America)
"Chanson brings together the vocal talents of gifted young men dedicated to the choral art, who sing with elegant ensemble, sincere expression, and sensitive musicianship." (René Clausen, director, The Concordia Choir)
"The Chanson concert was very well presenter and very well received. The ensemble performed with authority and precision in every musical style, with paradigmatic balance and blend, and with much personality projected to the appreciative listeners." (Richard Sjoerdsma, Music Department, Carthage College, Kenosha WI, presenter)
"Outstanding. Our audience enjoyed the program immensely. Absolutely accurate intonation, rhythmic precision, refined vocal control, and appropriate style for each selection." (Thomas Goetz, Louisville KY, presenter)
"Bravo! Chanson surpassed our expectations. The demo CD doesn't do them justice....a terrific evening." (Karen Tindall, Fort Walton Beach FL, presenter)
